Why to dance Argentine Tango with us?
Argentine Tango is a very sensual dance which is sure to evoke the feelings of romance, drama, and nostalgy culminating in sparks of bliss and joy from the dance. Anyone can dance tango that can be as simple or as complicated as a dancer wishes to achieve. There is a saying 'If you can walk, you can dance tango', because it's a waking dance. No previous dancing experience necessary. It's an excellent mild excercise for well-being and prolonging youthfullness as well. Soul-touching music may be a great stress-relieving aid. For couples, this dance may intensify the romantic feelings and be a uniting hobby. For singles, it's another opportunity to meet new people. While the class size may be small, many dancers choose to travel to other places anywhere from the neighboring cities all the way to another continents to experience different tango dancing communities, which are widely present in a majority of countries and big cities. With some experience, dancing may become an integral part of one's life, enriching one's leisure time A GREAT DEAL.
We are local dancers in the Greater Lafayette area of Indiana. Our mission is to create and nurture a favorable environment for learning and dancing the argentine tango. Students will learn the first steps needed to dance socially here or anywhere in the world. Even though the beginning argentine tango steps are very traditional and common for all tango schools, the execution of them is very individual therefore, every dance feels very unique, and this personality expression is another beautiful feature of tango.We love this dance so much that we want to share it with others. Our ultimate goal is to grow a friendly, blooming community of local tango dancers.
The typical tango life style includes tango classes, private lessons, casual social dance (group practice), and exclusive tango dancing parties.
We offer beginner and intermediate level classes weekly. Check the calendar for the current schedule.
The program focuses on fundamentals of argentine tango: concepts and technique, basic figures, as well as musicality and improvisation from the very start. It is designed from simplest to hardest, and each new class' material is deeply based on the material of previous classes therefore, student's benefit will be at its maximum with a continuing attendance. The full session bears a greater value than an equal but sporadic number of classes. However, you are welcome to join us at any time (and be ready for some challenge in this case).

Refund policy
An unused part of session's fee is refundable. The used classes, whether attended or not, are rated at drop-in rate when subtracted from the session's total fee for the refund of the remaining portion.

Shoes
Comfortable shoes are essential for effective
dancing. Shoes should be light weighted and easily twist on the wooden floor. Leather and suede soles are the best however, some street sneakers with rubber soles may work, too. Ballroom and latin dance shoes will also work.
With Tango Experience
If you know such tango figures as a cross, back and front ocho, giro, parallel and cross system, you are ready to join an intermediate level class. In this class, we continue to improve on those basic figures as well as learning new figures and sequences. Please see calendar for the current schedule.
Practica (group practice)
Practica is a casual dancing time when dancers of different levels gather to dance with a purpose of practicing their dancing skills. They help each other with questions and problems. Help may be asked from a practica's guide as well. Practica is open to anyone who completed our beginner session in full, or already have a prior tango experience.
Usually twice a month on Sunday nights. See the calendar for a current schedule.
Cost $5 for non-students and $2 for full time students. Cash or check at the venue.
Workshops
For a boost of dancing skills of any level, weekend workshops with visiting professional instructors will be organized a few times a year. The information on workshops can be found on our events page or the calendar. The expected cost of the full weekend program usually falls between $60 and $150. Students often get discounted rates.
Private Lessons
Private lessons with Sofya are available upon request. Private lessons can be more cost effective in the long run as we will work intensively on individual needs at a student's pace, but regularity is more important than intensity.
